Stavropol was named in a Russian rendition of a fictitious Greek name;
it translates to the city of the cross. When solders built the
fortress of Stavropol they found a huge stone made cross. The city was
strategically built to help in the conquest of the Caucasus in the
18th century. Today, Stavropol is a modern city with its own soccer
team. The city sits in the midst of the Caucasus mountain range but is
easily accessible with air, train and car. Stavropol is a vibrant city
with wide and spacious roads and huge back yards. You?ll find parks,
skiing, wide open spaces, forests adventure sports, a vibrant social
life and much more in Stavropol.
