Tolyatti lies in southern Russia on the Volga River. Originally known as Stavropol it was renamed after Italian Communist Party leader Palmiro Togliatti. When the construction of the Kuybyshev Reservoir was being built in the mid-1950s, the town had to be moved to higher grounds. Tolyatti is the home of Russia?s largest automobile factory with the Lada car as their flagship product. Further manufacturing plants include artificial fibers, heavy machinery and synthetic rubber.
